My Non-Resolution

new-years-graphicWelcome to 2017! At the start of a New Year, the tradition of setting our New Year’s Resolutions can provide you with a great opportunity to sit back and reflect on yourself. It makes you wonder if you’re living up to your potential and think of all of the things you would change. No matter how perfect you may think someone is, there’s a good chance they are thinking about everything they could change too.

Have you set any resolutions? How many have you broken so far? I know that I’m about 50% on keeping mine so far and it’s only the third week of January. What were your resolutions? Workout every day? A new healthy diet? Read more books? Spend more time with your family? What if this year you throw those resolutions away and just focus on you and being happy?

That’s right. This year’s New Year’s Resolution is to sit back and enjoy life. Take time to enjoy the little things in life, like sunsets and flowers and the sound of your children laughing. Have a regular night out with your friends. Do something that makes you happy, no matter how silly other people may think it is. Sing at the top of your lungs, dance in the rain, watch a funny movie.

This year let’s forget about counting those calories and feeling bad about skipping the gym. Let’s forget about trying to change ourselves. Let’s not try to be perfect. Let’s not tear ourselves apart for not keeping our resolutions and just ditch them all together.

Who’s with me? Are you ready to leave all of your unrealistic and unobtainable goals and just be happy to be you? My non-resolutions this year are to sit back and relax more, to have some more me time, to enjoy my kids while they are little (even though they are crazy), being proud of myself for the days that I do make it through a full workout and not chastising myself for the days that I may skip, eating healthy and not regretting having dessert. I want to just be happy for being me and not worry about trying to be something better. I think that 2017 is going to be a great year!
